Summary/Abstract: Purpose – The aim of this paper to determine how familiar Polish companies are with the Value Based Management (VBM) concept. Design/methodology/approach – The paper presents an essence of the Value Base Management concept and discusses the key advantages and drawbacks of implementing the VBM system. Next, the key findings of a questionnaire review carried out in 2013 among the group of the biggest public companies in Poland have been presented. Linkage between value creation and remuneration of top managers has been examined. Finally, the major challenges facing implementation and application of the Value Based Management concept have been deliberated. Findings – This research into how familiar managers are with the VBM concept and whether they apply it in practice and/or intend to introduce it, reveals that – among the largest Polish listed companies – the value-based paradigm of management is a reality. It is more than a mere suggestion made by the theory and expected to be put to practice; still, declarations of using the VBM concept would require further in-depth verification – preferably as individual case studies. Originality/value – This paper takes a new look at knowledge about VBM concept among top managers representing the biggest Polish public companies.
