Summary/Abstract: In 1992 a branch of the Guggenheim opened in Bilbao, Spain. The success of this project resulted in an alarming trend: the branding of museums. In 2013 the first branch of the Louvre museum will open abroad. Many experts, who feel that there are risks in exporting national cultural heritage and selling museum names, have criticized this decision.
