Summary/Abstract: The article makes an attempt to systematize and add some points to the discussion on the economic success of the California Silicon Valley. The paper argues that the source of its prosperity lies in successfully overcoming three well-known economic problems: the innovator’s dilemma, Arrow’s paradox, and transaction cost. At the same time, using the concept of clusters and the specific example of the Silicon Valley, the article seeks to demonstrate limits of the theory of knowledge-based economy.
