Summary/Abstract: Purpose – The study attempts to evaluate the profitability of selected crops of protein crops, taking into account the cost of production risk.Design/Methodology/approach - The method of financial analysis was used, taking into account measures and indicators used in agricultural economics. The share of costs resulting from the possible implementation of risk groups as a percentage share in seed production was determined. It illustrates the decrease in yield caused by the probability of implementing the estimated cost of production risk expressed as a coefficient. This coefficient reflects the degree of risk. The cost of individual risks was estimated independently, and the amount of this cost was adjusted (using the price index of goods and services purchased for the purposes of current agricultural production according to the Central Statistical Office) for the years covered by the analysis (2009-2015). The source of data is was Central Statistical Office (GUS) (regarding, among others, yields) and Agrokoszty (in the Agricultural Accountancy Department of IAFE-NRI) Findings - Taking into account the cost of risk in total production costs significantly reduces the cost-effectiveness ratio (including the cost of risk) of a given plant activity. While the production of field peas, including the production risk, was only profitable in 2012 and 2014, the economic efficiency of horse bean seed production was unsatisfactory (profitability index
