Summary/Abstract: Purpose – Assessment of the impact of non-cash payments on volume of sales in retail trade on the Polish market. Design/Methodology/approach – This article presents a hypothesis that application of non-cash payments in retail trade results in growth of retail sales revenues. To verify it, sales revenues in retail points, with particular emphasis on large retails stores and discount stores were analysed. Case study illustrated with an example of a discount store „Biedronka” was presented. Moreover, correlation between sales value and value of transactions made with the use of payment cards was analysed. Findings – The research showed that application of non-cash payments with the use of payment cards has positive impact on volume of sales in retail trade. As a result of application of payment cards, it was found that not only revenue from sales of goods and services being the subject of sales of commercial enterprises may increase, but also revenue from additional services offered by payment terminals – cash back service, and this offer may attract new clients. Originality/value – This article will fill research gap concerning the impact of non-cash payments on re-tail sales. The results of deliberations should be treated as a determination of direction of further research in the area of finances.
