The experience of the Merciful Love in Family Life

Summary/Abstract: The experiencing of merciful love in marital and family life has its source in the encounter with God, who is rich in mercy. This is the foundation, from which married couples draw and experiencing the merciful love of God, they learn to show it to each other, to their family members and to every person. The basis is always receiving the mercy of God. Mercy, which God revealed in the most full manner in His Son, Jesus Christ, and He did this, among other, through His coming to the world in the family of Mary and Joseph. The point of departure of our reflection is thus showing the merciful love of God. As God has shown his mercy through a family we also indicate the special role of Mary, Mother of Mercy in experiencing the merciful love of God. This love can be seen both on a paternal (exigent) and maternal (solicitous and affectionate) level. Spouses experiencing such love should show it to each other, live by it and teach their children to discover this dimension of divine and human love. The next element of merciful love which has been noticed is receiving God’s mercy by married couples in the sacrament of mercy, the sacrament of reconciliation and penance. It is in this sacrament that spouses experiencing the fullness of the merciful, forgiving love of God – learn how to give mercy and forgiveness to each other and to their family and learn how, by receiving this sacrament, they give an example of forgiving love to their children.
