Problem of the Inexpressibility of the Holocaust Situation and the Question of the Position of Women in the Holocaust

Summary/Abstract: The unsayable, inexplicable quality of the Holocaust opens up a vast range of issues: the questions of the possibilities of representation, the questions of memory, witnessing, and also the questions of the rupture, impossibility, inexpressibility and trauma. Besides these questions, the paper „The Problem of the Inexpressibility of the Holocaust Situation and the Question of the Position of Women in the Holocaust“ opens up similar questions of the problematic, almost inexpressible position of female subjects in the phallogocentric culture, which is shown in the concrete analysis of the position of women inside the Holocaust situation. Here the female subject is not only ignored – it is omitted or, even if it is present in the texts and representations of the Holocaust, it is stereotyped. It is left with its weakness and ineffability, as is the Holocaust itself, thus creating the point of cultural and civilizational trauma – the point which acts as a constant reminder and calls on the constant need to be spoken about.
