Summary/Abstract: Today the Hungarian-German bilateral relations have become "normalized" - says the author in the edited version of his speech delivered at a public discussion organized by the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung's Budapest Office about the state of Hungarian-German relations. This normalization implies a certain devaluation for Hungary, as Hungarian-German relations no longer reflect the main axis of international relations. Other problems, regional and bilateral relations have moved to the focus of the German political class's attention. Obviously, this change is more difficult for Hungary to handle, since for instance in foreign policy a crucial point of orientation has weakened. The Former State Secretary of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry points out that if Hungary would like to maintain the "special" attributes of this relationship, it needs to undertake proactive political planning and a comprehensive approach rooted in creative thinking.
