Summary/Abstract: Generally available collections of Polish proverbs feature 160 maxims containing different days of the week. Most of the proverbs (70%) touch on morality and social norms and affairs. These are followed by axioms about economy and weather (15%) and puns used in various communication situations (15%). The analysed proverbs are syntactically simple and rhymed, and have a rhythmical structure. These features make them easy to remember and help to convey the message. Most of the proverbs were in use in the Polish language in previous centuries.
