Summary/Abstract: The goal of the article was an attempt to present the vocabulary connected to cooking and cuisine in selected novels The Pensioner and The Hunchback by Józef Korzeniowski. The analyzed material includes terms for meals, names of food types, dishes and beverages (both, alcoholic and non-alcoholic), names of cutlery pieces and places related to preparation of food and eating. The scrutinized terms appear in the proverbs, phrases, comparisons and metaphors. The native terms are dominant the majority of which are derivates. The used vocabulary increases realism of descriptions, and serve the purpose of creating the illusion of reality.
