National-Catholic speech about Poland “Defenders of the Cross” in front of the Presidential Palace.

Summary/Abstract: The paper is based on the study conducted by students of the Institute of Sociology at the University of Warsaw under the author's guidance in academic year 2011/2012. It presents an analysis of materials regarding a civil movement of the “defenders of the Cross” in front of the Presidential Palace in the capital, that emerged following the crash of the presidential plane near Smolensk. While referring to Alaine Touraine's concept and Goffman's frame analysis, the author demonstrates the mental sources of movement in media coverage associated with father Tadeusz Rydzyk. He shows the original motivation underlying the participation in a memorial gathering which led to the evolution of the new identity of the “defenders of the Cross” during the presidential campaign lost by Jarosław Kaczyński. The paper shows how the spontaneous movement of mourners gradually became a political background of the ruling party of Law and Justice.
