Summary/Abstract: This article attempts to analyze the debate in recent years about future of services of general interest, policies that the European shoud be developed and possible means of intervation – sectoral legislation or a common legal framework. The article focuses on the search for the most appropriate approach to regulating this part of public life, leading to greater efficiency and quality on the services of general interest with particular emphasis of the role of public policies during the 80s. In the context of the ongoing reforms of public services in the 80s will try to argue that the Europon policies are part of European integration of services of general interest which leads to liberalization and to economic and social cohesion, beginning on the European debate. The main focus, stating that the policy concerning services of general interest, in fact belong to the few areas where the Commuinity has no powers under the European Treaties. The concept „services of general interest” is present with different meanings in different countries, and some even completely absent. The lack of a uniform definition in the member states of what is a services of general interest with limited powers of the Union and the change in the role of public policies are responsible for initiating the original debates within the EU on situation and future development of services of general interest. Argues that the idea behind the choice of approach lie a number of factors of national and local specifics which can not be neglected even in the light of a united and unified Europe. Determine the concept of services of general interest.
