Summary/Abstract: The paper presents an analysis of conceptual metaphors of language. The research source was an article series “O zjawiskach i rozwoju języka” by Jan Michał Rozwadowski (1950) who wanted to introduce issues related to language theory in an accessible way. The metaphorical expressions identified and used by Rozwadowski are differentiated according to the degree of conventionality. It was shown that the underlying conceptual metaphors can be arranged hierarchically from the most schematic to the most specific.
