Vision of the Catholic University of Lublin In View of Its Founders’ Project

Summary/Abstract: The article displays the remarkable output of the Catholic University of Lublin, both the strictly scientific and the educative achievement within the hardships in the beginning of its existence. Scientists from the University of Lublin were involved in the significant ideological disputes that arose in the Independent Republic of Poland. The immense intellectual and organisational effort of the people associated with the University of Lublin contributed to advanced education of a considerable group of the Catholic intelligence. However, no effort was spared to assure compliance of the Catholic University with the Thomistic approach. All that corresponded with the teachings of the Pope. The effort of the Founding Fathers of the Catholic University of Lublin principally prepared the University of Lublin for ideological wrestling with the communist totalitarianism in the time of the People’s Republic of Poland. That University survived the worst time, remaining to be the only one University in the whole soviet bloc, that ensured the freedom of scientific research; the university that emerged victorious from the tremendous confrontation that had originally derived from the philosophical (scientific) background.
