Summary/Abstract: Mariusz Zaruski lived in times when Poland regained the independence in 1918, when we were fighting to get access to the sea. His concept of the sea was connected with influencing the feelings of the nation to form strong characters of the youth sailing across the sea for the young people to become “beautiful and good” according to the ideas of ancient Greece and Rome. Their followers were Polish knights, insurgents and accursed soldiers. Zaruski was convinced that characters of young generations of Poles are shaped by means of hardship while sailing as to become “as hard as a rock and souls as clean as deep sea”. To be able to rebuilt the spirit of independent and strong Poland.
