Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses the Croatian cultural identity in Bosnia and Herzegovina through the analysis of the position and status of the national cultural institutions with the aim to confirm the thesis that the Croatian cultural singularity is the way and guarantee for the solution of the Croatian question in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Croatian question in Bosnia and Herzegovina is basically a question of culture, both in its narrower and wider meaning. Not ignoring the fact that there are no exclusive political questions that do not involve the culture as well, and bearing constantly in mind that they cannot be solved by delegating them to the cultural field, the paper suggests the institutional enforcement of cultural institutions. One does not follow the spontaneity of national romanticism, but rather the foundation, maintenance and development of the institutions should be stimulated by public means and not necessarily link them with the sustainability exclusively on the market bases like the cultural industry or similar patterns such as are recommended from globalistic standpoints. The paper does not accept the paradigm that one should first create material and political conditions and only then develop the sensibility for culture. On the contrary, identity is kept up and developed parallel with other social segments. What is more, frequently it stimulates and directs national and social development. Therefore we consider it very important for the solution of the Croatian question in Bosnia and Herzegovina to present the arguments about the Croatian ability for culture and its effects as essential characteristics by which the Croats in B&H are recognized and appreciated.
