Summary/Abstract: In the modern period of development of Bosnia-Herzegovina’s art music (1945– 1992), new music creators appeared in the field of composing. One of the composers of the period, who was bound to Bosnia and Herzegovina by birth as well as his opus, is Avdo Smailović. In his entire creative work, A. Smailović often addressed the piano in chamber works, but rarely the piano solo. He composed Metamorphoses for piano solo near the end of his life, expressing creative curiosity even then. That is evident from the Expressionist treatment of the musical material, the atonal musical language with sparks of folklore and a new formal pattern, all in line with the style pluralism of music of the 20th century, which left a deep impression on the Bosnian and Herzegovinian composer Avdo Smailović.
