Summary/Abstract: Ukraine is today a country whose future seems to be very difficult to predict because of the conflicting interests of the superpowers that intersect on its territory, the separatist tendencies emerging in its various parts, the very difficult economic situation, and the exodus of the population, growing year by year. The study presents the geographical conditions determining the huge potential of Ukraine, which due to historical circumstances and the current political situation, can not be utilized for the good of the state and the people. As a result, having the best conditions for agricultural development and huge industrial potential, Ukraine remains one of the poorest countries in our part of the world. The greatest obstacle preventing not only development, but the very survival of the state, are not separatist groups supported by Moscow, conducting operations against the Ukrainian army in the east of the country, but the pathological system of government that allows an extremely unjust and inefficient distribution of income among the population, and the extraction of wealth abroad by the privileged minority.
