Summary/Abstract: Nuclear Posture Review is the most important document presenting the nuclear doctrineof the United States and roadmap of the American nuclear arsenal development. The2018 edition of the Review is a reflection of contemporary security environment. Itbrings the view of return of the great powers competition, so much attention is drawn tochallenge posed by Russian nuclear weapons. Nuclear Posture Review focuses onRussian tactical nuclear weapons, breaking the INF-Treaty and nuclear de-escalationdoctrine. Pentagon plans to develop low-yield nuclear weapons as a means of moreflexible deterrence, adjusted to threat and hypothetical limited use of nuclear weapons,to a greater extent. However, the document also announces the tremendous developmentof strategic nuclear weapons, in a way unparalleled in the post-cold war era. TheAmericans will not be content with status equivalent to Russia, but desire to be theundisputed leader.
