Summary/Abstract: After the Second World War, the process of restoring the destroyed economy and infrastructure began. At the same time, the creation of conditions for new ventures in the education and culture began. The first step was the literacy of the population as the starting point for every further cultural educational and social engagement of the population. In order to successfully implement planned social activities, it was necessary to have a larger library funds available to citizens, it was necessary to establish new and improve the work of existing libraries.In May 1945, the National Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina was opened in Sarajevo, which took over the role of the central library in the territory of BiH. In the period from 1945 to 1953, over two hundred libraries were opened across Bosnia and Herzegovina.In the Lukavac area, two public libraries were opened in 1946: Local Public Library Puračić and National Library Lukavac. The oldest library located within the Soda Factory continues its work. The old ones are being renovated and new school libraries are being established.
