Summary/Abstract: The article describes the promotion of religious teaching and education activities by Ursulines of the Agonizing Heart of Jesus at the beginning of the diocese of Łódź. After a short characteristic of socio-economic situation of the diocese of Łódź and the formation of Church institutions we present the main directions of bishop Wincenty Tymieniecki’s pastoral care. Out of many problems that the young diocese coped with the diocesan bishop paid special attention to education of children and youth. At the request of bishop Wincenty Tymieniecki mother Urszula Ledóchowska sent her sisters to pastoral work and mainly to work in the area of religious teaching and education. In 1918-1939 saint Urszula started her work in five towns on the territory of the diocese of Łódź: Łódź, Ozorków, Arturówek, Kazimierz and Łęczyca. The direct reason why grey Ursuline sisters were invited to Łódź was to supervise religious education in the diocese, coordinate religious education and religion classes at schools. In order to help lay religious teachers carry out their mission Ursuline sisters got involved in their professional training, deepening of religious knowledge and development of spiritual life. The sisters devoted themselves wholeheartedly to that task with a great support on the part of their foundress. The article shows more important formation activities which were taken up by the congregation mainly in Łódź.
