Summary/Abstract: Love, erotica, desire, delight – all this can be found in this contemporary guide to the philosophy of pleasure, the Kamasutra. In their latest play entitled Kamasutra: A Study of Pleasure (Dramatyczny Theater in Wałbrzych, premiere: 31.12.2011), Weronika Szczawińska and Bartosz Fr¹ckowiak have set about to “rewrite” V?tsy?yana’s work. The author defines the performance as an “instrument of desire” and a “pleasure machine,” a kind of theatrical ars amandi. At the same time, she emphasizes the philosophical and ethical character of the “pleasure principle” which governs the play.
