Summary/Abstract: The Polish sign language (in Polish, PJM) is a typical form of communication in a society of profoundly deaf people. In modern linguistics, it is viewed in two different ways. Some researchers treat PJM as an ordinary language, while others question its linguistic status. This article describes coincidental and differentiating features of natural sound languages and gestural systems.
