Summary/Abstract: The survival and adaptation skills of Listeria spp. were evaluated in this study. Microbiological swabs taken from the elements of a processing line and its surroundings in the product packaging hall, were examined for the presence of Listeria monocytogenes with the use of traditional microbiological methods. Strains detected in samples gathered from the sampling points, were then analyzed to compare their genetic similarity by molecular biology methods. Most frequently it was found in sewage grate, floor – near the entrance and floor – near the exit. The raw material does not come in contact with aforementioned, but it indicates the presence of Listeria spp. on the other elements of a processing line. Improper or insufficient precautionary measures can result in transfering of this pathogen onto further areas of the food-processing plant and significantly increase the risk of final product contamination.
