Summary/Abstract: The authors of the article presented the methodical approach to the necessity of the safety zone establishment on the example of groundwater intake in Stary Sącz. The analysis included the minimal hydrogeological conditions with the use of the Analytic Element Method and the sozological conditions in the resource area. Also, an assessment of the aquifer susceptibility to contamination was made taking into account the vertical filtration time and using the DRASTIC Method. Basing on the obtained results, the scope of the indirect safety zone was proposed. The possible restrictions in land use resulting from the safety zone establishment were compared with valid restrictions which are the consequence of separate regulations and the adopted action plans. In this work one also avaluated the planned ecological effect of protective measures.
