Questions about advocacy for people with disabilities and disability – concepts and actions in an interdisciplinary perspective

Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the issues of advocacy and its interpretation in the social sciences (sociology, social policy, social work). Tensions in the area of advocacy for persons with disabilities and disability associated with the change of paradigm defining disability (towards the social model), and in the face of possible subpolitics (politics of equality, diversity policy) were identified. These processes have consequences for the individual professional groups, including social workers and social work. The professional activities of social workers (in social work) include professional advocacy for weaker groups (in this case – disabled people). In the end we put the questions on the model of advocacy of disabled people and the problem of disability, recommended in the activities helping professions to a changing paradigm for defining disability.
