Summary/Abstract: This article attempts to present Polish micro, small and medium-sized enterprises as compared to the situation of entrepreneurs operating in the European Union countries. When seen from the macroeconomic point of view, the role and importance of the entire SME sector are still growing. Poland is more and more dynamically and effectively achieving average EU-28 indicators. SMEs contribution to the GDP, constant fluctuations of their number and productivity and growing international activity result in increasingly detailed analyses that allow for determining directions of development of individual sectors and companies of this size. The SME sector becomes particularly significant when we examine the number of SME employees and the value added that is generated by them, namely more than 6 million out of 9 million workers in the Polish economy. This article presents the development of SME employment and value added in the European Union and Poland in 2014.
