Summary/Abstract: According to the decision of the Basel Committee on Banking, there is (since 2011) a gradual implementation of the prudential standards to the banking system of the EU countries, known as Basel III. The new rules, imposed on the banks, require to possess a higher value of their equity. The value of capital, that banks will have to maintain, will depend on the risk of the funded projects. Therefore, the loans granted to finance of the more riskier projects will be definitely more expensive in future, then today. SMEs have the ability to reduce the risk of their projects by providing to the bank - along with the loan application - an extensive information about the project.
