Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the issue of the text as the main element in the process of teaching Polish to foreigners of East European origin. Because the students’ native languages are closely related to Polish, East Europeans are able to learn Polish vocabulary faster than other foreigners. The teacher may thus introduce more complicated texts to present and practice vocabulary. As today’s Polish textbooks for foreigners prefer shorter text forms, e.g. dialogues, the authors of the article suggest that a new textbook should be written – one applying the described approach, and they briefly introduce the project launched in Belarus.
