Summary/Abstract: The author considers the policy of the Dualistic monarchy towards Bulgaria in the context of their diplomatic relations as well as with regard to the political interest of the two countries in European Turkey. Some of the central issues discussed by the author in this problematic range include: the aggravation of national and religious conflicts in Macedonia and the region of Odrin, the interrelations in the Balkans, the attempt to gain Bulgaria’s independence in 1905, the new strain on the issue of Crete and the crisis in Bulgarian-Greek relations during 1906. 1905 and 1906 were the last years of count Goluhovsky’s cautious politics and the eve of a drastic change in Vienna’s foreign policy in the autumn of 1906.
