Summary/Abstract: A letter from Vassil Levski to patriots in Elena, written on 5 April 1872 is the starting point for the investigation of the financial support that the town of Elena provided for the revolutionary movement. Many years were needed to determine the letter’s addressee, however this allowed for the information in it to be thoroughly made use of and interpreted. Additional sources also contribute to the revealing of important aspects of the activities carried out by the supporters of the revolutionary cause in Elena that strongly resemble the working methods in the Internal Revolutionary Organization network. Despite the lack of unequivocal sources for the establishment of a revolutionary committee in Elena, an activity, which managed to raise 150 Turkish pounds was carried out in the town. Threatening letters and other propaganda materials incited some of the local wealthy men to sacrifice some of their money for the struggle for liberation. The interesting aspects in the investigation are V. Levsli’s arrival to Elena which caused much turmoil among the local leaders, as well as finding out the exact timing when that happened. Levski’s letter from 5 April 1872 is a documentary piece of evidence for the established contacts and the financial support provided by the town of Elena for the Internal Revolutionary Organization.
