Summary/Abstract: The text traces back the interesting fate of a Prussian officer who was born Moslem in the Ottoman Empire and was sent to the „Christian world“ by the conflict of 1736–39. The career of Ludvig Steinman on the one side testifies of the open character of the Prussian society in the eighteenth century but on the other side pays attention to the circumstance that the classical „movement“ of people from Christian Europe towards the Ottoman Empire (no matter volunteer or forcible) was not always a one-way road but sometimes though rare it became a two-way street.
