Summary/Abstract: The article views the efforts of the Habsburg Monarchy to establish control over the Serbian-Hungarian stretch of the Danube within the period August– December 1914. The emphasis is placed on the military-political and diplomatic moves made by the state institutions in Vienna with a view to achieving this objective. Striving to carry out its plans concerning the Danube Issue, Austria- Hungary intensified its contacts with Germany, Bulgaria, Rumania and partly with the European Danube Commission (EDC). Substantial results were not achieved by the end of 1914 because the armies of the monarchy lost the strategic initiative on the Balkan military front.
