Summary/Abstract: This paper is concerned with language change in Polish resulting from the ‘restoration’ of the Tridentine Mass in the Roman Catholic Church on the basis of Motu proprio Summorum Pontificum issued by Benedict XVI. The change in question has to do with the appearance of new Latin lexical borrowings in Polish as well as the ‘reactivation’ of those earlier, but somewhat forgotten, Latinate items. Although the process is limited in scope and might have a temporary character, it is an interesting instance of the influence of extra linguistic events on language.
