Summary/Abstract: It is true that Albanian ethnography and historiography have treated in a rather limited context so far the phenomenon of the appearance of the Albanian high medieval hat or, more exactly, of the Albanian, according to the same term used in particular in France. The first to mention this, among the Albanian authors, is the ethnologist Andromaqi Gjergji in his study "Costume as an expression of the cultural characteristics of the Albanian people in the Middle Ages". Subsequently, in 1985, Dhorka Dhamo referred to it as "Ethnographic Elements in the Medieval Painting of Onufri and Nicolas". The same year, Fjalori Enciklopedik Shqiptar (the Albanian Encyclopedic Dictionary), published by the Academy of Sciences of Albania, would reserve a place apart for the article "Albanian hat", written by A. Gjergji. In a few lines, illustrated by two engravings, Boissard and Coronelli, there is talk of its high form, its resemblance to the hat of some portraits of Onufri, the Albanian medieval painter, all based on Rabelais for the to have mentioned in his works. These are, in short, the only data so far on the medieval Albanian hat to the knowledge of the general public.
