Footprinting as environmental impact measure

Summary/Abstract: The paper enumerates the strengths and weaknesses of indicators belonging to the family of footprint indicators. They follow the Ecological Footprint method and describe the anthropogenic pressure on the natural environment stemming from the functioning of production models and consumption patterns. The environment provides us with resources and also absorbs pollution. However, all these benefits are available to an extent limited by the capacity, resilience and stability of ecosystems. In the conclusion of the paper, recommendations for a more frequent and productive application of footprint indicators are offered.
