Summary/Abstract: This article is related to three scientific disciplines: sociology, literature and criminology. At the beginning, the author disscuss basic issues related to literary studies, then she presents the sociology of literature and its basic research and methodological problems, and next the theoretical assumptions concerning social problems and their depiction in Polish crime novels by Marek Krajewski and Mariusz Czubaj. The presence of social issues in the crime fiction is considered from the perspective of the grounded theory methodology in the concept of Anselm L. Strauss and Barney G. Glaser. At the end, the reader can become familiar with the statistics on reading and the role of crime novels in creating social reality.
