Summary/Abstract: The article discusses early attempts of codification of modern Belarusian literary language made by an artist Karus Kahanets and a politician Anton Lutzkevich, the authors of handwritten unpublished school grammars, at the beginning of the 20th century. A comparative analysis revealed close connection between the two grammars in the field of phonetics, morphology and linguistic terminology.
