Summary/Abstract: In this retrospection, I am tracking the first “steps” of the Bulgarian criminal law after five centuries of Ottoman domination. The transition from moral awareness of the need for changes to forming the idea of creating an entirely new, pursuant to the needs of the practice and influenced by the Western European law, criminal law is a long and at times a path difficult “to march” for the young Bulgarian Kingdom. I am pleased to have the opportunity to present to the reader very significant, while complex historical events such as the Mode of the powers, Unification and the Serbian - Bulgarian War, which affected the pace and duration of the work on the creation of the first Bulgarian criminal law.
