EARLY PREVENTION OF AMBLYOPIA

Summary/Abstract: The development of vision is a dynamic process that takes place from the birth of the child until the age of twelve. All effects that could interfere with its proper development result in short-sightedness or amblyopia. Since the eyesight is one of the most important components in the early psychomotoric development of the child, and affects its quality later in life, early detection and treatment of amblyopia is one of the priority tasks . The aim of this paper is to analyze the causes that can lead to the development of amblyopia or short-sightedness. We have analyzed the causes of amblyopia in children who were examined at the Oftalmologic department of the Cantonal Hospital in Bihac in the period from 2002 to 2006. Cases were fully covered in terms of discovering the causes of amblyopia. All children aged from 1 to 12 years of age were treated in infirmary. Therapy regarding the preventing of amblyopia has been conducted on all of them.
