IDRIZ AJETI – GREAT TEACHER OF THE SCIENTIFIC TRUTH

Summary/Abstract: This paper, dedicated to the academic Idriz Ajeti, aims to describe and to evaluate in a succinct way its steady and perpetual commitment to the defense of the scientific truth about the Albanian nation and the Albanian language. This concerns primarily the Albanian autochthony, the Illyrian origin of the Albanian language and in connection to it, the Illyrian descendance of Albanian. It is well known that the thesis of the autochthony of the Albanian ethnicity has been put forward and sustained since the 18th–19th century from various scholars. During the 20th century the Albanian scholars have managed to strengthen it through various linguistic and historic-cultural analysis and proofs. Putting in doubt or rejecting the Albanian autochthony by some ex-Yugoslav scholars has been linked to the discriminatory policy towards the Albanians and to the refusal of civil rights for them, regarding them as nomadic newcomers. I. Ajeti has been in the frontline of those who have dismissed such non historical and non scientific attitudes through convincing arguments. Another important domain in which I. Ajeti has supported with insistence and with no hesitation the scientific truth is the one of the Albanian literary language, the way of its formation and of its acceptation as the literary language of all Albanians.
