Summary/Abstract: In the concept of integrated waste management, considerable attention is paid to waste products produced by different sectors of industry. A major source of waste is the meat industry, which increases its production capacity globally. In recent years, increased interest has been noticed in the possibilities of processing these waste products. The purpose of this paper is to present opportunities for the recovery of animal by-products that are released as waste from the meat industry in the country. A study of the normative documents regulating the categorization and the treatment of these materials has been carried out. The main trends and opportunities for utilization of these waste products in other countries are analyzed. The state of the problem in our country is also presented. It has been found that there is currently no single system to monitor and generate data on the quantities of animal by-products from the meat industry. Only thermal treatment is used in our country as a method of processing and destroying them. It is appropriate to set up a monitoring system and to implement different ways of using these products as they represent a valuable resource that can be reworked and reused.
