Summary/Abstract: This article aims to examine the core competencies of the European Commission (EC) concerning the granting of state aid, taking into account that the Commission, in cooperation with Member States, keeps under constant review all systems of aid existing in those states. Attention is paid to the procedure for notification of planned state aid as a result of which the Commission may take a decision and the author examines the types of decisions in different cases and specific conditions. Also it is introduced the exceptions where no prior notification to the Commission is needed which follow different aid schemes covered by the block exemption and de minimis aid . In conclusion, it is suggested to pay attention to the changes in the rules on state aid in the course of the reform of the framework for state aid, which is provided within the European Union.
