Summary/Abstract: The paper presents and multidisciplinary interprets contemporary field notes of mythical folk tales. Notes were taken during the period from 2010 to 2012 and in August and December 2017 at the area of Posušje. Fairies are the most common beings of mythical folk tales. The written folk tales testify to the belief in these supernatural beings in this area. In folk tradition fairies are characterized as beings who rarely do harm to people. They would do so if someone discovered their secret that they have a horse, donkey or goat hoof. They would also revenge to those people who discover others where they took them.To those who invoke them they caused an insanity. However, if someone did a favor to them, they would have always given that person a reward. The motifs we find in the mythical folk tales recorded in Posušje area can also be found in other Croatian folk tales. Such motifs are: the motif of fairy’s hair, the motif of power hidden in the fairy’s milk, kidnapping of people, the invocation of the fairies and their dance, the motif of taking horses and plait mane. The originally written folk tales in this paper testify to the rich oral literary tradition of Posušje area and they take an important place in Croatian oral literature.
