Scope of the abbreviations in the modern Belarusian language

Summary/Abstract: This paper presents implementation of abbreviations in modern Belarusian and in its languages for specific purposes. The attempt has been made to prepare a dictionary of abbreviations. Although the author has established 71 thematic groups of basic abbreviations, they do not comprise all abbreviations. Consequently, the 72nd thematic group – “other acronyms” has been created. It includes such items as abbreviated names of contemporary people, abbreviations of Soviet times, abbreviations in common use, etc.
