Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the historical and cultural conditions which determined the process of emigration from the Belarusian territory, as a part of the Russian Empire, to the neighboring Poland, namely, to the city of Crakow on the turn of the 20th century. The city played an important role in the lives of M. Yatovt, V. Savich-Zablockiy, A. Pashkyevich (Tyotka) and others, as well as in the dissemination of the Belarusian printed word which contributed to the formation of national consciousness of the Belarusian people.
