When Identity Meets Politics

Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to analyze relations between two phenomena – politics and identity. These issues are discussed in the context of two aspects. Firstly, the attention is focused on the way how the notion of identity is used or enmeshed in the legal aspect of ethnic relations in Poland. Secondly, identifcation processes are reconsidered as being the result of the permeation of political and identity dimension. Therefore, two main questions are posed: what kind of conceptualization of the notion of “identity” is needed in the context of political discourse and what “happens to identity” at the moment of its politicisation.
