Summary/Abstract: In the article the attempt to examine the reasons of M. Ge’s protracted creative misunderstanding with his contemporaries, in particular with wandering artists is revealed. The process of creating "Crucifix" in two variants on the basis of the artist pupils’ recollections is examined. The author defines the characteristics of expressionism, modernism by means of the artist’s last pictures at the beginning of the 20-th century.
