An Analysis of the Procedure Regarding the Access to the Documents Held by the National Archives and a Few Conclusions on its Application

Summary/Abstract: Nowadays archival work has to conform to the needs of the society and its citizens, to be in connection with scientific researchers, genealogy or the accessibility to legal documents. The rules imposed for archival research define how National Archives of Romania provide access to its collections. The study analyses the rules for accessing public records preserved by the National Archives of Romania, balancing the needs of researchers to get access to unique materials with the needs of the archives to protect the documents from damage. It analyses those rules regarding the research and copy of some documents and how they are represented in the regulations of other European archives.
