Summary/Abstract: This article offers a detailed presentation of macro-appraisal, as an alternative to classical theories of archival science, reviewing the most relevant theories and their respective literature. Macro-evaluation was considered to be a “third wave” in archival theory, a theory that presents old concepts in a new light. This need to reshape appraisal and selection theory is imposed by large mutations in our modern society. In the same time, the study questions the applicability of the concept in the Romanian context.
